Managed Learning Programme for New Entrants

Gas Engineer Course

Who is this gas engineer training course for?

This gas engineer course is aimed at beginners who would like to enter the gas industry and begin a career as a gas installer. It has been specifically designed for those with no previous experience. This course will provide you with everything you need to start a successful career in the Gas Industry, whether you are looking to become Employed or Self Employed as a Gas Safe Engineer.

If you already have experience in a related trade (e.g., plumbing) our Managed Learning Programme for experienced trades may be a better fit for you.

What is the managed learning programme?

This is a package course that has been developed by Logic Certification Limited (LCL) and is recognised by the gas industry’s Standard Setting Body (SSB.) It is a route for new entrants to learn, develop and build a portfolio within the gas industry. Once this MLP is completed, candidates can then move on to the new entrant ACS assessment, allowing them to be on the Gas Safe Register

What does the MLP cover?

This gas engineer course introduces candidates to the gas industry, covering basic plumbing and heating knowledge – it is made up of both theoretical and practical study, allowing candidates to gain sufficient knowledge and skills to work safely within the Domestic Gas industry. The course specifically covers:

  • Introduction to plumbing, gas, and heating theory and principles.
  • Gas legislation
  • Health and Safety
  • Gas Safety (installation and use)
  • Plumbing and Gas pipework installation
  • Electrical system, controls and components
  • Chimneys
  • Ventilation
  • Combustion
  • Heating design, heat loss and comfort conditions
  • Unsafe Situations
  • Open and balanced flues
  • Burner pressure – gas rate and combustion
  • Installation and servicing of domestic central heating and hot water appliances
  • Installation and servicing of domestic cooking appliances
  • Principles and procedures of fault diagnosis.

This is a mixture of practical training combined with theory training to make sure you have the right skills and knowledge.

You then progress to the ACS assessment, where you will submit a portfolio of work that has been carried out under the guidance of gas safe registered engineers – there is time on the course to build this portfolio. If candidates are struggling to find a company to do a placement with to build their portfolio, Technique Learning Solutions can find you a company, enabling candidates to become qualified in quick time and have the ability to enter on to the Gas safety Register.

You won’t be overwhelmed, we keep class sizes small to make sure the investment you make into your training is like no other centre. All our tutors understand the industry and have helped many people make a change to their career and can offer you advice on all aspects of employment.

For a limited amount of time, we are future proofing your training by including Heat Pump training in addition at no extra cost, which will save you time and money as heating systems change in the future.
