City & Guilds 2377-77 – PAT Testing Course | 2 days

Who is this PAT course aimed at?

This PAT testing course is aimed at individuals who have an electrical background and basic electrical knowledge – it is ideal for those who are responsible for the maintenance of electrical equipment and those undertaking practical Inspection and Testing of electrical equipment. PAT testing, also known as in-service Inspection and Testing of electrical equipment, provides additional revenue for many electricians. Whilst PAT testing is not a legal requirement, the law does state that employers must ensure portable electrics are maintained to prevent any risks and danger, the HSE recommends PAT Testing to maintain equipment.

We also have a three-day PAT testing course which is ideal for beginners with no experience.

What does this PAT course cover?

This PAT testing course teaches candidates how to test portable electrical appliances, giving them the ability to carry out mandatory checks. PAT Testing training allows them to learn, develop, and practice the skills required to Inspect and Test electrical equipment in line with the latest code of practice for in-service inspection and testing, covering PAT Testing requirements and regulations.

Day one covers the theory of in-service Inspection and testing, referencing the code of practice
Day two is more practical, allowing candidates to practice with equipment. The assessment will also be completed on this day.

This course will specifically cover:

  • How to follow the code of practice (COP)
  • Definitions used with the COP
  • PAT Testing regulations
  • Legal responsibilities and requirements
  • Which equipment is and isn’t covered in the COP
  • Competence and training
  • Any relevant electrical units of measurements
  • Classes of equipment, construction of equipment and safety methods
  • User checks
  • Visual inspection
  • What test instruments do and how
  • How to carry out Inspection and Testing
  • The frequency of in-service Inspection and Testing
  • Record keeping and reporting
  • Risk assessment examples

What PAT testing qualifications will be received?

Course Reviews

This course covers a complex open book subject. Over the years, the IET Wiring Regulations have dramatically increased in content and complexity. Andy, our tutor delivered the very best course that he was able to, in the allotted time. However, as an older student who has now completed the course on four different editions of the Wiring Regulations, I believe that training courses on this subject need to be of a longer duration. I appreciate that this will have an impact on costs, but it was not possible for Andy to deliver all of the course content that both he and I believe to be necessary in the time allotted. That said, Andy worked very hard to give the most comprehensive package he was able to within the time framework. I was successful in the examination, I am very grateful to both Technique and Andy and I consider that my course fee was well spent. I wouldn't hesitate to use this training provider again.
